Light, composition and moment. (cont.)

On top of Wanu Picchu

Moment. The main event driving this photo is moment. Or, in this case, a human expression which is often how “moment” is shown. A couple of seconds later when Sharon was looking the other direction or maybe with her arms down and this photo would have lost much of its interest. Most of the time moment has to be anticipated by the photographer. It is, after all, only a slice of time that usually can’t be observed. The best moment photos can and often do transport the viewer.

Sharon had just climbed Wanu Picchu in this shot. Wanu Picchu is the mountain seen the background of most photos of the city of Machu Picchu. As she stood on the peak she said “I have always wanted to do this”.

  1. Lovely view, great moment caught in time. Manchu Picchu is one of my need to see destinations. Is it as fantastic as I’ve heard?

  2. Yes, Machu Picchu is an amazing place but make your reservations soon. Already, the number of hikers allowed up Wanu Picchu is limited and there will be limits to those admitted to the city of Machu Picchu. I’m not sure what the exact number is but when I was there last year the limits were scheduled to take effect this year. It is worth visiting but has become very popular the last several years. I would recommend staying more than one day in the area to optimize photo possibilities. Also, if you can get a room at the Sanctuary Lodge (just outside the entrance to Machu Picchu) you’ll be able to keep an eye on the light.

  3. I’ve been in Cusco in 2007 and I did a 3 day walk through the “camino del inca”, when I saw for the first time Machu Picchu was an amazing experience, I’ve posted some pictures of Machu Picchu here. It´s something you can’t forget.
