The Nikon D3: after dark

I have been pretty pleased with the D3’s low light performance so far. It’s especially nice for (handheld) shots like the one here where I would probably need to use a tripod to get the same results with the D2x. It would have been nice to have shot the same scene with both bodies for a comparison, perhaps that’s something I will try in the future. For now, I’m happy with these relatively, noise-free images shot at ISO 1600.

This scene is from a shopping center in Scottsdale, AZ. Equipment: Nikon D3, Nikkor 14-24mm f2.8 zoom. Exposure: 1600 ISO, 30th sec. at f4. This frame was a raw NEF capture converted to JPEG after some slight tonal correction and sharpening.
