Why Nikon’s D90 changes the game

Lots of video cameras can spit out still images but few if any digital SLRs can capture high def video. The D90 (and its descendants) is likely to change how we think about digital imagery accelerating the convergence of still and video imagery.

From a technical perspective, just being able to shoot HD video with all those great Nikkor lenses should be enough to set anyone’s heart aflutter. Think wide. Think long. And, think about the amazing depth of field control of a Nikkor 50 mm f1.4, wide open on a video camera.

The D90 could could also streamline workflow for print media outlets experimenting with on-line video and multimedia content. As a result, shooters that work for these organizations could capture the required video content without have to carry a dedicated video camera.
Stay tuned.
