…one more thing on photojournalism

In a previous post I pointed you to Ken Kobre’s new site <http://www.kobreguide.com/content/> which chronicles the best of current multimedia and video journalism. I also said there were few places to see the best of print photojournalism (i.e. books, magazines etc.) Well, no sooner than I posted that, the sixth edition of “Photojournalism: The Professional’s Approach” (also by Kobre) landed on my front porch. (But, I’m so accustomed to eating my words by now.)

Although this is technically a college, photojournalism textbook, anyone who loves photography will enjoy it. It’s 500 pages are overflowing with photos that I guarantee will make you laugh and cry. What makes this even more enjoyable for me is that many of the featured photographers are former classmates of mine from the University of Missouri’s photojournalism program.

At the time, I’m sure none of us really appreciated the fact that our instructor, Ken Kobre, was also the author of the textbook we were using. We didn’t have to guess what the author meant we just held up our hands. That was several “editions ago” of “Photojournalism: The Professional’s Approach”.

The book has not only survived, it keeps getting better with each new edition. Ken deserves a round of applause.
