Home brew gear can be tricky at the airport

(If you haven’t read this blog by TSA employees you are missing a treat. It is a great example of how an organization can use social media to execute its mission….but I digress.)
The poster (TSA’s Bob) writes about what TSA screeners think when they see homemade devices passing through the airport X-ray machine. None of these are happy thoughts. If you’ve packed any wiry, electronic devices that look like they were made in a tiny cabin in Montana I have a word of advise for you. FedEx.
This is of particular interest to people who travel with lots of heavy, dense electric devices i.e. photographers. I rarely fly with anything that remotely resembles something I might engineer in my garage. This is mostly because the stuff I make rarely works but now I have another reason.
BTW, I wasn’t just sucking up to TSA. Evolution of Security is a great example of communication best practices. Other organizations should take note.

Judging by the pictures on the website, I am sometimes puzzled what people would stuff into their luggage. Obviously they don’t travel often.
I have to say, nothing surprises me anymore.
