Dream photo assignment votes are in

The first stage of the voting for Microsoft’s “name-your-dream-photo-assignment” is complete <http://www.nameyourdreamassignment.com/> and, call me a cynic, but it seems like a better name for this would be the “name-your-dream-cause” contest. (I didn’t submit an entry for the contest so I don’t have a vested interest in the outcome.) It’s pretty clear that most of the dream assignments are tied to some altruistic cause, not necessarily a bad strategy because entrants have to win over on-line support before advancing to the finals. But that detracts from the “photo” part of the contest, in my opinion.

The real genius in this project is the move by Microsoft to conceive and execute the contest. It has resulted in untold thousands of site visits (judging from vote count) and hundreds of bloggers like me yammering about it. (I actually learned about it from “The Daily Coyote” <http://dailycoyote.blogspot.com/>).

I’ll be interested in what assignment the team of judges picks as the winner.
