Photographers can learn from solutioneers

Creating a solution to an unidentified problem, or “solutioneering”  will probably be a hallmark of the current era when history is written. Twitter is a good example of a solution that crossed the finish line ahead of the problem it was designed to solve. There have been a lot of solutions in search of problems lately…gratuitious solutioneering.

Photographers have a lot in common with solutioneers especially when creating photographs that have no specific communication problem to solve. The ultimate solutioneering approach to photography is the act of shooting something just to see what it looks like as a photograph. This differs from agenda-driven photography in that the story is unknown at the time of capture. This is where the magic happens.

I’ll be paying attention to the solutioneers.
