Keith Philpott

Keith Philpott has more than 20 years experience as a photographer. His work has focused on real people in real places and he has traveled to approximately 100 countries.

From his early work with National Geographic, Keith’s client list has expanded to include many national magazine groups. Time, Inc has been a client since the late 80s. Others include: Business 2.0, Fortune, Bloomberg Markets and Forbes.  Keith’s corporate clients have included many private and public companies. Most recently he has produced annual report photography for Midwest Research Institute and Black & Veatch, an international engineering firm. Additional clients include: Sprint, HNTB Engineers & Architects and Kansas City Life Insurance.

More recently Keith has moved into the genre of fine art photography. His well-honed, story telling style is a consistent element in this personal narrative. The photograph has become a vehicle to express his genuine curiosity about the world and the people in it.

“I’m looking for the confluence of moment, light and composition,” said Keith. “It’s rare when all three come together in one photograph but when they do…it’s a little like the perfect golf shot. You only need to hit one once to develop a full-time obsession with doing it again.”

“The two most common questions people ask me are: how did you decide to become a photographer and what’s your favorite place in the world? My favorite place is my next trip. It seems weird, but traveling is more like a continuum than a destination for me. The times when I’m not traveling are just interludes in a lifelong process of learning and discovery. As for why I’m a photographer; because photographs exist first as human experience so the more you produce, the higher the experiential dividends. Ultimately, we are the sum of our experience.”

Keith is a lifelong Kansas resident. He received his BS degree from Kansas State University and his MA from the University of Missouri School of Journalism.
